Monique & Bruno
Monique and Bruno entered the intervention with Dr. Shanna Swan after trying to get pregnant for 2 years. Monique had a child from her first marriage and was confident they would conceive, but after 2 years and 2 miscarriages along the way, they became concerned. Bruno’s work as a construction worker exposed him exponentially to a large amount of toxic chemicals and the convenience of single use water bottles. They worked closely with Dr. Swan to remove products that were causing the most exposure. For Bruno, he eliminated plastic water bottles and Monique eliminated perfume.
They overhauled their laundry room and kitchen—removing plastic kitchen containers and choosing fragrance-free laundry detergent. While some habits – like plastic storage bags, coffee capsules, and certain beauty services – were harder to give up completely, they’ve found most swaps easier than expected and just as effective. They also found that shopping for organic food was easier and more accessible than they expected.
AFTER THE INTERVENTION
During the production they became pregnant and welcomed baby Daniel. Now, they are expecting their 3rd child! They continue to focus on 100% cotton clothes, breastfeeding, non-plastic baby bottles and creating a fragrance-free environment filled with love an sunlight. Both Monique and Bruno felt the lifestyle changes they made to unplastic their lives not only supported their fertility journey but improved their overall health—better sleep, healthier skin, and a dramatic reduction in Bruno’s eczema.
Their growing family, now includes 12-year-old Ceci, baby Daniel and their two dogs, Zoe and Zach. They describe their life as “beautifully messy”—and happier than ever.
